You Are Not a Burden to Her

$45.00

“You Are Not A Burden To Her” Atsei Cooper 12/30/2023

I have been wanting to create a piece inspired by the pictures of the Anikituwah woman with a burden basket for a while now. The photographer who took these pictures did not bother to learn or record her name. The attitudes towards Indigenous peoples at this time is that we would go extinct and our names would not matter. Clearly this was not the case. This piece is inspired by the power and patience of motherhood, intergenerational teachings, food ways, and the responsibility of gadugi. “You Are Not A Burden To Her” is an expression of love, of giving yourself wholly to your children, your community, the land, our ancestors and our teachings. The weight of these responsibilities is heavy but never a burden. It is an honor and we carry it with love.

Fine art giclée print

8” x 8”

Each copy is signed and numbered #/200 by Atsei Cooper

Tax included in price

These prints are also being sold at the Museum Store at the Museum of the Cherokee People
